A Beautiful Time of Year

A Beautiful Time of Year

As we say farewell to the striking aloes in full bloom – and the busy bees that danced around them – I found myself inspired to capture their beauty on canvas. My brush followed the shape of the aloe, standing proud against the soft, russet grasses of the veld.

And now, with “Spring Time” here once again, I can’t help but smile at the sight of the little honey-makers buzzing joyfully in the Hamamelis. Their cheerful gathering feels like a painting waiting to happen… perhaps this time, in the delicate strokes of a watercolour.

There’s something about this season that always feels like a gentle reminder of renewal. The veld slowly awakens, colours shift, and the light grows warmer with each passing day. It’s as though the landscape itself is stretching after a long rest, ready to show off its quiet beauty once more.

I often find myself pausing, sketchbook in hand, trying to capture these fleeting moments. Not every scene makes it to canvas, but each sketch or brushstroke becomes part of a bigger story - a celebration of nature’s rhythm, and the joy it brings into our lives.
