Great Things Take a Little Time

A Garden Commission in Progress

There’s something special about painting a place that already holds meaning.

This current commission - a garden in Underberg for a dear friend - has been exactly that. Not just a scene, but a space filled with memory, care, and quiet beauty. The kind of place that isn’t rushed… and shouldn’t be painted that way either.

From the first reference images, I was drawn to the balance of structure and softness - the strong lines of the home, the gentle layering of flowers, and the life that moves through the garden. It’s classic, in the truest sense. Timeless. Considered. Lived in.

And that’s what I aim to carry through in every brushstroke.

The Process Behind the Piece

Commission work is always a journey.

It begins with observation - really seeing what makes a place feel like itself. In this case, it’s the pathway drawing you inward, the soft bursts of colour from the flower beds, and the quiet presence of someone tending to the garden. Those small human touches matter. They bring warmth and story.

From there, the painting builds slowly.

Layer by layer, the composition starts to settle. Colours shift. Details emerge. Sometimes what looks finished at first glance still needs time - to soften, to deepen, to find its balance. Traditional painting asks for patience, and in return, it offers depth that can’t be rushed.

Great things take a little time.

Anita's Farmhouse

This Underberg garden has unfolded onto the canvas.

Details have been refined, colours settled, and that final sense of harmony brought it all together. But that’s part of the beauty of it - watching something evolve, knowing that each stage brings it closer to completion.

And when it’s done, its not just be a painting of a garden.

It is their garden - held in time.

Why Commission a Piece?

There’s a unique kind of connection in having something created just for you.

A commissioned artwork isn’t just about capturing how something looks — it’s about holding onto how it feels. A home, a garden, a moment in time. These are the spaces where life happens, and preserving them in a classic, hand-painted form gives them a kind of permanence.

It becomes part of your story.

Whether it’s for your own home or as a gift, a piece like this carries meaning that goes beyond décor. It’s personal. It’s considered. It’s yours.

Art for All - In a Personal Way

Through Fine Arts 4 All, my hope has always been to make traditional artwork more accessible, more personal, and more connected to everyday life.

Commissions are a natural extension of that.

They allow me to work closely with people, to understand what matters to them, and to create something that reflects that - in a style that leans into the classic, while still feeling alive and present.
