Liz Finlay

Liz Finlay (née Broerse) is a South African artist based on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast. Born in Indonesia and raised in South Africa, she initially built a successful career as a potter, creating sought-after stoneware pieces. After retiring from pottery, she discovered a new passion for painting and has since developed a vibrant body of work, primarily in oils.

Liz is best known for her joyful still lifes - especially colourful florals and domestic scenes - as well as landscapes and seascapes. Her expressive brushwork and bold use of colour bring warmth, light, and energy to everyday subjects. She works from her studio in a beautiful seaside village and is an active member of a local artists’ group.

Her paintings are held in private collections in South Africa and internationally (Canada, Holland, Germany, and Australia). For Liz, painting remains a true labour of love - something she never wants to feel like “work.”
